چکیده

We consider the phenomenological consequences of sampling multiple vacua during inflation motivated by an enormous landscape. A generic consequence of this sampling is the formation of domain walls, characterized by the scale mu of the barriers that partition the accessed vacua. We find that the success of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) implies mu > or = 10 TeV, as long as the sampled vacua have a nondegeneracy larger than O(MeV4). Otherwise, the walls will dominate and eventually form black holes that must reheat the universe sufficiently for BBN to take place; in this case, we obtain mu > or = 10(-5)MP. These black holes are not allowed to survive and contribute to cosmic dark matter density.

Simplified Chain Inflation

We propose a simplified chain inflation model and calculate the primordial power spectra of the scalar and tensor fluctuations. The spectral index and the tensor-scalar ratio are respectively 0.972 and 0.089 which are consistent with present cosmological observations. Inflation models proposed by Guth in [1] not only explain the large-scale homogeneity and isotropy of the universe, but also pro...

Density Perturbations and the Cosmological Constant from Inflationary Landscapes

An anthropic understanding of the cosmological constant requires that the vacuum energy at late time scans from one patch of the universe to another. If the vacuum energy during inflation also scans, the various patches of the universe acquire exponentially differing volumes. In a generic landscape with slow-roll inflation, we find that this gives a steeply varying probability distribution for ...

Populating the whole landscape.

Every de Sitter vacuum can transition to every other de Sitter vacuum despite any obstacle, despite intervening anti-de Sitter sinks, despite not being connected by an instanton. Eternal inflation populates the whole landscape.

Initial conditions for slow-roll inflation in a random Gaussian landscape

In the landscape perspective, our Universe begins with a quantum tunneling from an eternally-inflating parent vacuum, followed by a period of slow-roll inflation. We investigate the tunneling process and calculate the probability distribution for the initial conditions and for the number of e-folds of slow-roll inflation, modeling the landscape by a small-field one-dimensional random Gaussian p...

Vacuum Selection on the String Landscape

I examine some non-anthropic approaches to the string landscape. These approaches are based on finding the initial conditions of the universe using the wavefunction of the multiverse to select the most probable vacuum out of this landscape. All approaches tackled so far seems to have their own problems and there is no clear cut alternative to anthropic reasoning. I suggest that finding the init...
